A MUM-TO-BE in Haworth is anxious she could be trapped by the Tour de France as it whizzes past her door on Sunday.

But health chiefs have reassured her and the public that they are fully prepared to cope with the expected traffic disruption.

Leanne Quinn and her husband Peter took over the Old Registry guest house on the famous setts in Main Street only last month and she is due to give birth to their second child any day now.

And she is concerned that while the village celebrates the Grand Depart, her own special arrival could prove a little tricky.

"I might have to hobble down the setts to the open road to get out and to hospital!" said Mrs Quinn, 28.

"I'm not terrified, but I am a bit nervous - especially as everybody who sees my big bump says 'what will you do if it comes when Main Street's closed off for hours?'"

An Airedale Hospital Trust spokesman said many open roads would enable them to access emergencies.

"Skipton Road which runs outside the hospital will not be closed during the Tour de France although we do expect it to be busy.

"If pregnant women who would normally come to Airedale Hospital go into labour, we would advise them to ask a friend, family member or partner to double check the most up-to-date information on road closures available on the council website and if they don’t think they will be able to get through to the hospital to call 999."

Stacy Hunter, director of operations for Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, said: “There will be normal hospital visiting hours operating during the Tour de France weekend, however if you are planning a visit we would advise you to allow extra time for your journey.

"Skipton Road will not be closed, although we expect there to be more traffic on the local roads and so you should check your local authority website before your travel as they will have all the up-to-date travel news.

“We are fully prepared for the event and have been working closely with our partners in the local authority and health community to make sure our emergency plans are as robust as possible. It will be business as usual for our staff, although we expect more of them who are on duty that weekend to stay overnight in our on-site accommodation if they have problems getting home.
