A WHARFEDALE church will celebrate its 140th anniversary next month.
St Wilfrid’s Church at Pool-in-Wharfedale will mark the occasion between Friday, October 11 and Sunday, October 13. The celebrations will begin on the Friday with a 6pm Said Evensong, followed by an 8pm quiz at Pool Sports and Social Club.
An exhibition focusing on the church’s history will be held from 10am to 4pm on the Saturday, when refreshments will be available. Then on Sunday, October 13 the Bishop of Ripon, The Rt Revd Helen-Ann Hartley, will lead a Festival Service at 9.30am. That will be followed by an 11.30am to 3pm open church and, at 4pm, a Sung Evensong with St Mark’s Choir.
A two week long treasure hunt for children will also be held from Thursday, September 26 when cards containing the answers will be positioned between the Post Office and Pool C of E Primary School, where entry forms will be available.
