OTLEY’S Bellman has helped usher in a new stage in the town’s recovery from the coronavirus lockdown.
Otley, like communities all around England, saw many of the lockdown restrictions eased on Saturday, July 4 when pubs, restaurants and hairdressers were among the businesses finally re-opening.
To mark the occasion Bellman Terry Ford, a multiple award winner, gave a special cry in the Market Square.
His cry welcomed people back to ‘Otley in beautiful Wharfedale’ and asked that everyone be careful and kind.
It also urged shoppers to follow social distancing and other rules designed to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and concluded: “Above all, thank you for showing patience and for being kind to each other.
“Tell all your friends on social media that Otley is open for business and welcome back.” Former Town Councillor Douglas Robinson was on hand to capture the moment with this photograph.
