A SENIOR pupil from South Craven School has won recognition for her outstanding ability as a physics student.

Sarah Fretwell, who is in year 13, was one of just 18 physics students from Leeds and the surrounding area to be nominated by her science teachers for the Ogden Trust Schools’ Physicist of the Year Awards.

A South Craven spokesman congratulated Sarah, adding: "Her teachers recognised her as being engaged in the classroom, expanding her own understanding and empowering her peers to achieve success in the study of physics.

"As one of the winners of the awards, which are dedicated to encouraging students to pursue the study of physics, Sarah received a certificate from the Ogden Trust.

"She was also given a book token worth £25 and was made eligible to apply for a means-tested Ogden Trust Undergraduate Scholarship worth £1,500 per year for up to four years, if she applies to university do a physics degree."
