Students showed their creative side in an event to celebrate their school receiving a prestigious arts award.

Guiseley School has had its education programme recognised with an Artsmark Gold award from The Arts Council of England.

And the public were given a chance to see product of their skills in a celebratory event last week.

Work by GCSE and A-level students studying fine art, applied art, digital photography, textiles, product design, food, graphics, construction and engineering were all showcased in the exhibition.

Parents, students, neighbours and local businesses supported the event.

A school spokesman said: “The feedback was hugely positive, as time and again people were taken aback by the quality, workmanship and inventiveness of the work on display.

“GCSE and A-level students catered for the event with a delectable menu of both sweet and savoury nibbles, such as pesto swirls, mini quiches and French patisseries.

“The event also included perform-ances by drama students, the soul band, jazz band, sax group, clarinet group and orchestra, and the school choir performed Sing by Gary Barlow.”

Visitors to the school were able to enjoy a carnival-style atmosphere. Exhibits included dresses fit for a ball and a bag adapted to carry a snowboard hands-free. Plants that were grown in the school allotment also did a roaring trade.
