Children from The Froebelian School in Horsforth are singing for joy after gaining places in the Opera North Children’s Chorus.

Nine youngsters from the school auditioned for the chorus and they were all accepted.

Members meet weekly to learn and rehearse and will perform concerts both locally and nationally. All the children in the chorus will be given the opportunity to appear in a professional stage production and one of the Froebelian pupils, George Hayfield, from year five, has already gained a place in an Opera North touring production of Queen of Spades.

He has also auditioned for the part of Leo in The Go Between, to be staged at the Leeds Playhouse and other regional theatres.

A school spokesman said: “I am really proud of all the children’s achievements and look forward to their first performance.”
