Plans to convert a former Bramhope equestrian centre into a faith school will be unveiled in the village next week.

Brownberrie Education Trust’s school in Horsforth, which is run by the Plymouth Brethren, is hoping to relocate to Bramhope by creating a new home at the stables by Greenacres, off Moor Road.

The trust has run out of space for pupils at the main building of its Horsforth site, on New Road Side, and has started using portable buildings – a situation that has drawn criticism from local councillors and led to a planning row.

Villagers in Bramhope will be able to learn more about its plans to move to the equestrian centre, which is in the green belt, at a consultation event at the primary school which will run from 4pm to 8pm on Thursday, July 2.

Representatives from the trust’s planning consultants, Spawforths, will be present to explain the proposals and answer questions.

Bramhope and Carlton parish and ward councillor Clive Fox (Con, Adel and Wharfedale) said: “I welcome the pre-application consultation with the local community and urge as many people as possible to take the opportunity to learn exactly what is being proposed for this sensitive green belt site. At the same time people will have a chance to make their comments and maybe have some influence on the formal planning application which seems likely to follow.”
