Dozens of golfers are set to compete in a tournament which aims to raise thousands of pounds for a local children’s charity.

The event takes place on June 20 at The Bradford Golf Club at Hawksworth.

All proceeds will go to The Principle Trust Children’s Charity, which provides free respite breaks for children who are underprivileged, disadvantaged, disabled, have life-limiting conditions, or who have experienced poverty, trauma or abuse.

The Principle Trust Golf Day is being organised by former Professional golfer Georgina Simpson, who recently joined the Skipton-based charity as events manager.

Georgina was one of just a handful of UK women to make it through a qualifying school onto the Ladies Professional Golf Association in America in 2003. She also played on the European Ladies Tour for 15 years and has run a UK wide amateur golf tour since retiring from professional golf 8 years ago.

Last year’s golf day raised £6000, providing weeklong respite breaks for 10 families. This year’s tournament is being sponsored by businesses including RK Petty Plumbing and Heating in Ilkley, Settle Victoria Hall, ASE Gates in Shipley, Vitrition of Cleckheaton, Croft Conservatories in Preston and Health Innovations and Health & Wellbeing Brands, both based in Skipton.

Among the businesses competing are: • Holden Smith Law

• VLT Logistics

• Kay and Lane Insurance Brokers

• Abingdon Flooring

• Airedale Group

• Yorkshire Block Maintenance

• Sutcliffe Construction

• Skipton Properties •

Spartan Forklift Trucks Ltd

Tickets cost £400 for a team of four and include refreshments on arrival, 18 holes of golf, dinner and evening entertainment from sought-after comedian and after-dinner speaker, Lea Roberts.
