Keighley Albion suffered a bruising reality check last Saturday in the Yorkshire Men’s League Premier Division, as the high of pinching a last-gasp victory at King Cross Park in their opener was quickly forgotten.

Promoted from Division One at the end of last season, Albion made that perfect start on away soil, winning a thriller 22-16.

But they were second-best by a distance at home to Westgate Common on Saturday.

The away side ran riot, scoring nine tries, eight of them converted, to rack up a huge 52-14 victory.

The three try scorers for Albion all came off the interchange bench, with Aleksander Pala, David Moore and Joseph Priestley crossing the whitewash for the hosts.

Jacob Cox added a conversion for the home side, as they lick their wounds ahead of this Saturday’s trip to Stanley Rangers, who are the other newly-promoted side in the division.
