Yeadon Carnival takes place this Saturday, and their Happiness Champion, nine-year-old Ewan Law will be giving out a very special gift to one lucky stranger.
Ewan has been using his pocket money all year to buy flowers and give them away as random acts of kindness to make people happy. Ewan made the news earlier this year when his kind acts were brought to the public's attention through a Facebook appeal. His kindness was rewarded when he was appointed as a Happiness Champion of this year's Yeadon Carnival and used his artistic skills to designed the poster for the event.
At the carnival on Saturday Ewan will be gifting his 100th bunch of flowers to one lucky attendee.
Ewan said: "I will be really happy to reach 100 as it means I will have hopefully helped to make 100 people smile. There are a lot of people who are sad and not happy, so I want to show them there are nice things in the world. It makes me feel good to watch people find the flowers and I love to see them smile!"
The Yeadon Carnival team are really pleased to have Ewan join them as Happiness Champion this year.
Jo Kenyon, 35, Carnival Co-Chair said: "Ewan is such a fantastic young member of the community and he's really gone above and beyond to spread happiness in the local area. Our fantastic entertainment sponsors, Leeds Bradford Airport are giving Ewan a special VIP airport tour as a thank you for all his hard work, and the team have a few surprises instore for him on the day too - we think he definitely deserves a reward for spreading so much happiness!'"
Thanks to support from Leeds Bradford Airport, Morrish Solicitors and Manning Stainton Estate agents, and local councillors, the parade element of the carnival will be returning this year.
Jo added: "We're putting a real focus on promoting positive mental health as it's such an important area, so the parade will be a real opportunity to highlight the things that make people in the community happy.
"As our entertainment sponsors Leeds Bradford Airport are also helping us put on some fantastic live music and entertainment, including a headline set from The Lulas, family favourites the Celtic Cowboys, the hugely talented Redshakes and fabulous local singer songwriter, Terri Shaltiel. Plus there will be dancers, magicians, circus performers, fun fair rides, bouncy castle, trike rides, classic cars, party games, and much much more. Plus we have over 200 'Little Bags of Happiness' to give away too.
"We're also super excited to be working with Yeadon's very own Fairy Dogmother and Jakes Pet Supplies to put on a dog show as part of the entertainment."
The Carnival will take place on Saturday, July 1 with the parade starting at 11am at Yeadon Town Hall, leading up to Yeadon Cricket Club for all the stalls and entertainment until 4pm.
