HAWKSWORTH village was be-decked with bunting and flags for the Coronation.
A village party was held on Coronation Day with drinks served from a gazebo outside the barn at Sunnyside Farm. Egg and spoon races were held for all ages and a wellie throwing competition took place. The winners won Coronation Day commemorative items. The adult winner of the egg and spoon race was villager Paul Dight and the adult winner of the wellie throwing was Stephen Hobson who has sheep grazing in the village. Later people headed Hawksworth Methodist Church for tea. The chapel had been decorated by the village social committee which had organised the whole event under the leadership of Michele Robinson.
On Monday, May 1st the village gardening group planted up five different fruit trees plus gooseberry, blackcurrant and redcurrant bushes on a patch of land adjacent to the chapel and this is going to be Hawksworth's Coronation Orchard. It will eventually be underplanted with grass seed including wild flowers.
