WHARFEDALE band ‘The Kites' which boasts a growing global audience as it continues to showcase its talent says it is 'buzzing' as it gets ready to debut headline at a Leeds gig.

The alternative rock band with roots in Otley has a local following for its eclectic, indie, pop-rock vibe, having played gigs across Otley, Ilkley and Leeds.

The Key Club gig, with support from Backspace, will mark The Kites biggest show since the launch of the band's EP and will include the first live performance of new singles ‘Emily Emily’ and ‘Living Room’.

The Kites launched its debut EP ‘Postcode’ in February of this year and has gained a loyal following of more than 25,000 monthly world-wide listeners. The five-track EP includes the single ‘LS21’ which draws on the band’s experiences of growing up in Wharfedale. The line-up for the gig will also include ‘Living Room’ set for release on Friday, April 21.

The indie rockers have recently had two of their singles ‘Jaded’ and ‘Emily Emily’ played on BBC Introducing North Yorkshire and West Yorkshire radio stations – the platform dedicated to discovering and supporting new music and emerging talent across the UK.

The four-piece includes Joe Staniforth (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Jake Mcbrinn (lead guitar and vocals), Èlodie Parsons (bass and vocals), and Ollie Staniforth (drums and harmonica).

Lead vocalist Joe said: “We just love to write and perform live music. What started as a hobby has fast become our passion. We are really good mates and we are all influenced by different genres of music - so we each bring something different creatively to the band.

“We are buzzing to play The Key Club – it’s a Leeds Indie institution. It is going to be such a fun night.”

The Kites headline gig at The Key Club, Leeds, on Saturday, April 29 is a Future Sound Group Presentation.
