THE oldest one day agricultural show in the country returns next month.

The 212th Otley Show will be held on Saturday, May 20th, 2023.

The Otley Show has grown to become one of the most important agricultural shows in the north for livestock and handicraft exhibitors to compete in.

Average attendance at the show is between 12,000 and 15,000 and exhibitors and visitors flock to the showground in the picturesque Wharfe Valley from all over the North of England.

As well as exhibitors of livestock, handicrafts and floral displays, there are over 100 trade stands with a wide range of produce and gifts to suit all everyone.

Show secretary Claudia Beutelspacher said as always there was a full programme of classes, events and attractions suitable for the whole family.

She said: “Our main attraction this year is Jamie Squibb Motorcycle Stunt Team – daredevil stunts. We are also welcoming Tom Longton’s Sheepdog display.

“Old favourites The Sheep Show will be doing their entertaining and informative show.

“Animal loving visitors can also see alpacas, donkey rides, Highmoor Bloodhounds, terrier racing and a dog show with classes for every dog you can enter on the day.

“There will also be a farriers competition as well as tug of war

“Local group Circus Leeds will be teaching circus skills to children and families and doing walkabout performances.

“Our Music Tent showcasing local bands and Otley Brass Band will be performing.

“We have cattle and sheep classes, horse classes from the mighty Shire Horses, to Shetland ponies and showjumping classes.

“Sadly due to Avian flu we have no poultry classes but we are holding classes for eggs as well as pigeons

“There is a produce and handicraft tent showcasing the entries for classes in handicrafts, floral art, photography, baking, preserves as well as children’s classes.

"If you are interested in excellent handmade items, the Made In Yorkshire Craft Tent is worth a look, as well as our Trade Stand village full of local traders and artisan food and drink retailers.

“There really is something for everyone and it's just a great family day out. Discounted tickets are available to buy online and in some Otley shops, or you can buy tickets on the day.”

Otley Show takes place at The Show Ground, Bridge End, Otley, West Yorkshire, LS21 2AA on Saturday, May 20.

The closing date for entry to classes is April 20.
