A VILLAGE primary school where "pupils achieve exceptional results" has received an Outstanding Ofsted report.

Askwith Primary School in Askwith was inspected over two days on November 9 and 10, 2022.

The Ofsted report, published on January 25, 2023, rated the primary school as Outstanding for the quality of education it delivers, the behaviour, attitudes and personal development of children at the setting, and the leadership and management of the school. The school's early years provision was rated Good.

Headteacher Mrs Elaine Nayler said: "I am thrilled that the sustained hard work of our incredible pupils, the consistent support of parents and governors and the dedication and commitment of the staff, since the last inspection in 2008 have led to this result."

The Ofsted inspection team praised the community primary school where "leaders have achieved the perfect balance between motivating pupils to achieve the highest academic standards alongside an equally ambitious commitment to pupils’ wider personal development."

The report says: "There were many highly positive comments from parents and carers, which capture the essence of this remarkable school. All parents who gave their views would recommend this school to others. Parents and pupils know how lucky they are to belong to this very special school community."

Pupils are praised for their "exemplary" behaviour at all times of the school day.

"There is no bullying," the report says. "Pupils know that staff would not tolerate it if it happened. Staff have extremely high expectations of pupils’ behaviour and conduct. Staff show pupils how to treat everyone with the utmost respect by the way that they conduct themselves. This makes everyone feel happy and safe in school."

On academic progress it says: "Pupils achieve exceptional results in reading and mathematics at every statutory assessment point. As a result, Year 6 pupils are extremely well prepared for the next stage of their education.

"In addition to achieving well in their learning, all pupils, including those with SEND, are developing confidence rapidly. This is because of the outstanding curriculum for pupils’ personal development. Leaders are determined that pupils leave this small village school with the confidence they need to succeed at secondary school."

Askwith Community Primary School converted to become an academy school in August 2015. When its predecessor school, Askwith Community Primary School, was last inspected by Ofsted, it was judged to be outstanding overall.

The school is part of the Yorkshire Collaborative Academy Trust.
