ACTION is being stepped up in the district to slam the brakes on the anti-social use of motorbikes and quad bikes.

Hotspot areas will be targeted by neighbourhood policing teams, focusing on enforcement and education.

And officers will work with Bradford Council on initiatives such as restorative schemes to help culprits understand the impact of their behaviour.

Police have seized motorbikes and quad bikes during a number of Keighley operations, after reports they were being used anti-socially.

The latest clampdown follows an announcement that Bradford Council will receive a £135,000 share of cash awarded to West Yorkshire Combined Authority by the Home Office.

Councillor Abdul Jabar, the council's portfolio holder for community safety, said: "We are delighted to get this funding, which will give us scope to take extensive action.

"We've had 1,365 motorcycle or quad bike-related crimes over the past 12 months across the district, and these are just the ones that have been reported, so we acknowledge there is a need to step up action. We hope a combination of enforcement and education will make a significant difference."

Police district commander, Chief Superintendent Rob McCoubrey, said the funding was "excellent news" and would "enhance our current partnership response".
