THE search has begun for this year's Yorkshire Young Achievers.

Nominations are now open for the 28th annual awards, which recognise people aged under 35 who have gone 'above and beyond'.

Previous winners have included singer Lizzie Jones, the widow of former Keighley Cougars star Danny – who collapsed and died from an undiagnosed heart defect during a match in 2015.

She campaigned and raised funds for defibrillators, and pushed for better heart care for sportspeople.

Eight awards are given out – Personality of the Year, Youngster of the Year, Unsung Hero, Achievement in the Arts, Achievement in Education, Achievement in Management and Enterprise, Achievement in Sport and Special Award.

This year, an awards dinner will take place for the first time since before the pandemic.

It will be held in the Centenary Pavilion, at Leeds United FC’s Elland Road ground, on November 17.

The event is also the main fundraiser for the Yorkshire Young Achievers Foundation, which makes grants to young people and organisations supporting them across the region.
