COUNCILLORS are working to set up a new voluntary group dedicated to supporting a local park.

Councillors Paul Wadsworth and Paul Alderson (Guiseley and Rawdon Ward) want to establish a new Friends of Micklefield Park group made up of local people, as part of efforts to improve the area’s parks and greenspaces.

They are inviting people to a meeting at Rawdon Community Library on Wednesday, July 6 at 7pm to discuss the issue.

Cllr Wadsworth said: “As local ward councillors we are committed to supporting our local parks and greenspaces. It is important that we are able to maintain and where possible enhance local leisure facilities for families and local residents.

"To that end we’re hosting a meeting in our ward to establish a new Friends of Micklefield Park Group which can act as a forum for local residents and ourselves to work with council officers to support the park.”

Cllr Alderson added: “It’s vital that we look after our local parks and greenspaces, and we want to ensure that Micklefield Park is well-maintained and, if possible, improved for the community to enjoy.

"A Friends group is a great way for local people to get involved and have a say about their local park and we hope there will be a number of people interested in joining this new group.”
