LINKS between Ilkley and its twin town of Coutances have taken a few steps forward recently.

During the visit of a civic delegation from Ilkley to the French town in late May, Jenny Howarth, secretary of the twinning committee, met Sophie Escalmel, manager of the Musée Quesnel-Morinière, with a view to developing links with Ilkley Manor House Museum.

Mme Escalmel was delighted to receive gifts from Ilkley Manor House, studied the summer 2022 programme and was impressed by the range of activities.

Back in Ilkley, Jenny met Sarah Thomas, of the Manor House to give her feedback and gifts offered by the museum in Coutances.

The civic visit allowed old friendships to be renewed after the recent hiatus. The delegation was received in the Town Hall by the Mayor of Coutances, Jean-Dominique Bourdin. Both M Bourdin and Ilkley Mayor, Mark Stidworthy, expressed the wish for more young people to become involved in twinning, to ensure strong links in the future.
