Rector’s message: On Thursday we celebrated the Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ into heaven. Christ’s ascension is hard for us to comprehend but we know that Christ’s earthly presence came to an end and that the Holy Spirit subsequently descended to earth at Pentecost. All this fulfils Christ’s prophetic words to his disciples in the aftermath of the Resurrection. St Seraphim of Sarov said that the whole purpose of the Christian life is ‘nothing else than the acquisition of the Holy Spirit’. Consider that thought as we travel from Ascension to Pentecost over the coming fortnight.
