THE Memory Tree @ Burley celebrated five successful years in style at The Parish Centre on Thursday, May 19.
Launched in 2017 by Burley-in-Wharfedale Dementia Action Group, the group meets twice a month to offer social, practical and emotional support while enjoying lots of lively conversation, music and reminiscence activities for people with memory problems and their carers.
Susan Collins, of Burley-in-Wharfedale Dementia Action Group said: “Music is integral to dementia care and we were entertained by the ‘Old Peculiars’, an impressive U3A group who delight in taking music, fun and song out into the community. On top of that we all enjoyed a resplendent afternoon tea provided by Chris Naylor of Menston Catering Services. It was a very special occasion and a real pleasure to welcome back previous members of the group, although sadly many were missing and we remembered them with affection.”
If you live in the Burley area and would like to join this friendly group, contact Susan on 01943 864424 or email dementiafriendlyburley@gmail.com
Susan added: "Alternatively, if it would be helpful just to chat with someone about anxieties or concerns, then do get in touch. We are also looking to recruit more people to join our amazing team of volunteers, without whom we could not offer this valuable service.”
