THANKS to the initiative of a small group of folk musicians in the Yorkshire Dales, live music is returning to the Buck Inn in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales.

Hawes based leading Dales folk music and dance historian Bob Ellis said: “In the mid-20th century, Jackie Beresford, a well-known accordionist from Buckden, hosted traditional music sessions of songs and tunes at the Buck Inn, Buckden.

“It is our intention to resurrect those fondly remembered sessions. The first will be held in the Buck Inn on Sunday 12th June 2pm – 5pm. It is hoped to follow this with regular monthly sessions throughout the autumn and winter.”

Bradford Folk singer and member of Friends of DalesBus Muppett added: “We have planned these sessions to make them accessible to many more people by timing them to fit in with the highly acclaimed Sunday Dalesbus network.

“People will be able to come to the Buck Inn at Buckden from as far away as Leeds, Bradford, Otley, Ilkley, Skipton, Keighley and Burnley on DalesBus services 874 or 875 and connections to enjoy wonderful local music with excellent local ales, without having to drive home afterwards.”

Sunday Dales Buses 874 and 875 serve Buckden directly from Leeds, Otley, Ilkley, and Grassington with connections from Bradford on 884 and Skipton on 72, and also links from Keighley and Burnley. Details www.dalesbus.org

Admission to the Buck Inn Session on Sunday June 12th will be free of charge but there will be a collection to support the Sunday DalesBus and also the Wharfedale Venturer weekday bus services in Upper Wharfedale.

A short four-mile public walk will be led by Friends of DalesBus members from Starbotton to Buckden to arrive at the Buck Inn in time for the music.
