YOUNG Bradford boxer Mohammed Subhaan Ahmed is to make his professional debut at the Magna Centre in Rotherham next Friday, and he already has dreams of superseding sparring partners Kell Brook and Kid Galahad.

Ahmed, 21, had a successful time as an amateur, where he was at one point ranked as England's number one, as well as winning a Great Britain gold medal, and English and Yorkshire titles.

But now he is working with the best, at the world famous Ingle Gym in Sheffield, he has even loftier ambitions.

Currently a super-featherweight looking to move up in weight class soon, Ahmed said: "Being in the gym and sparring with Kell and Kid daily, they're just on a different level.

"I seem them having world title level fights and it makes me want to push myself to be even better than them, to get to that world class level.

"They'll help me and give me advice on where I'm going wrong at times, and I couldn't ask for anyone better to do that."

Ahmed is also influenced by his trainer Dominic Ingle, so prominent in the world of boxing and son of legendary coach Brendan.

The Bradford prospect said: "Dom is very tough on us in the gym.

"He brings out the best in us boxers, because he's never satisfied.

"I often come away thinking I've done a really good job, but then he'll say one or two things, just to show me how I can get even better.

"It means I know I'm not the finished product, and I'm glad I've got someone who is tough on me."

Ingle has praised Ahmed as a "special" talent, and the youngster thinks there is plenty of those out there in Bradford.

The 21-year-old said: "I'm from BD3, and I've lived here all my life.

"There's a lot of talent around here, but not a lot to show for it and I want to set a good example and show that you can take the next step.

"Sometimes people can get distracted, or not be confident in their ability, which is a shame."

But fortunately Ahmed has bucket loads of confidence and discussing the step up from amateur to professional boxing, he said: "It's been a long time coming, as I've been boxing for 13 years now.

"I've been thinking about my pro debut ever since I started out too.

"I'm very proud of my amateur career and I had lots of fights against some of the very top kids.

"But I'm not satisfied, and I know I've got lots to prove as a professional.

"I had great experiences as an amateur though, and it will be good to take them with me into the pro ranks."

On next Friday's fight itself, Ahmed said: "I know I'll be fighting an experienced pro who's been in the sport for a long time.

"I just hope I can put in a good performance and show everyone what I intend to do in the pro game.

"I want to make a statement, turn a few heads and show people I'm the real deal.

"I've not fought since before Covid, in a championship fight as one of the top two British boxers at my weight, so people might have forgotten about me, but I'm 10 times better now I'm a pro."
