ANYONE with stories they would like to share about the Chevin Cross is being asked to contribute to a memory book.

It will be available for people from all denominations who have been inspired by the cross which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year.

The book will be on display at each of the Otley Methodist Church's Saturday coffee mornings from March 8, the date the cross goes up this year.

Coffee morning visitors can add their own entries during the four-week period that the monument stands on the Chevin.

The book will then be circulated around the Otley churches during spring and summer, before finally being placed in the Methodist church's museum for posterity.

Entries can be hand written or typed and handed into any of the staff on duty at the coffee mornings.

Anyone living further afield can send in their contributions to: Mr J D Burland, Church Life Chairman, Otley Methodist Church, Walkergate, Otley.

A display of images of the cross can also be viewed in the Wesley Hall during the four coffee mornings, and anyone with photographs or drawings to submit for it can contact Methodist Minister Julian Pursehouse on 01943 462308.

During February coloured cards sporting the number 40 - also the minimum number of volunteers needed to put the cross up - will appear in various shops around town.
