A MAN who has admitted breaching Covid-19 lockdown rules more than a year ago faces another eight month wait to be sentenced.

Milan Istok, 49, of Springcliffe Street, Manningham, pleaded guilty to participating in a gathering of two or more people in a private dwelling on February 28, 2021, when England was in a full Tier 4 lockdown due to a surge in Covid-19 cases.

Istok participated in the gathering, at a neighbour's home in Springcliffe Street, with two or more people, which was in breach of the Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (All Tiers) (England) Regulations 2020

Appearing at Leeds Magistrates' Court on March 8 this year, he pleaded guilty to the offence, but was told he must wait a further eight months to be sentenced.

His case was adjourned until November 17 for the sentencing, which will take place at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court.

It means that when his punishment is finally handed down, it will be more than 20 months since the offence was committed.

At the time the offence was committed, the UK was in the grip of the Alpha variant of Covid-19, which developed in Kent, which spread like wildfire across the country.

The Prime Minister placed the nation into a strict full lockdown - the third of the pandemic - to prevent spread, save lives, and allow the rollout of the Covid-19 vaccination programme to be able to protect as many people as possible.
