ILKLEY based artist Kwan Bevan is having a solo exhibition in the Ilkley Art Studio from December 17-19.

Kwan, who after completing a Fine Art Degree mainly concentrated on Abstracts and Life Drawing, said: “The majority of the paintings in this exhibition were produced during ‘lockdown’. With enforced time on my hands I spent hours studying travel photographs (both my own and other peoples). I decided to produce a series of paintings from some of the most appealing photographs.

“The photos I used to develop my paintings are only used as a reference. I am not aiming to produce a photographic reproduction. I want to be free to use colours and make makings to describe both my mood and my response to the scene. I study a photograph of a tower and I want to transform it from Blackpool to Paris!!

“I like to encourage the viewer to see my painting through the lens of a telescope. To stimulate their imagination to recall places with similar features they themselves have visited.

“Alongside these latest paintings, there are a few pieces of my abstract work. These pieces explore the integration of Oriental and Western Abstract art.”

‘Phase 2’ Mixed Media Exhibition is at the Ilkley Art Studio, Manor House Courtyard, Ilkley LS29 8DT, December 17 - 19th, 2021, from 10am – 5pm.
