THE YORKSHIRE Party is calling for Boris Johnson to resign and claiming he is 'unfit to govern', after the controversy surrounding the alleged Christmas party in Downing Street last year and recent sleaze scandals.

Yorkshire Party Leader Bob Buxton said: “The Prime Minster's excuses about the Christmas party are laughable and his performance embarrassing. He has not shared the sacrifices made by the nation. He has not led by example. Boris Johnson is not fit to lead the country."

"A number of Conservative MPs have had serious allegations made against them in recent weeks. Most notably, the PM utterly failed to condemn Owen Patterson and tried to rewrite the rules to negate his punishment - putting Party before country."

Dr Buxton was also scathing about Conservative MPs who have continued to support the Government. "Tory MPs need to put loyalty to the country before loyalty to Boris Johnson. If they vote for immoral bills, they assume full responsibility. If they abstain, that is still failure to stand up for the good of the country. If you fail to do that, why become an MP?"

Dr Buxton first called for Boris Johnson to resign last year, after he failed to follow SAGE advice and call a circuit-breaker lockdown, on September 21.

"He failed then, and tens of thousands of lives were lost. Children lost far more schooling than needed to be the case. It was clear then that he was unsuitable for office. Things have only grown worse. Boris Johnson must resign or be removed by Conservative MPs. If he fails to do the honourable thing, they must put the country first and pass a vote of no confidence," he stressed.

Boris Johnson has consistently claimed that no rules were broken despite the allegations of a number of parties in 10 Downing Street when restrictions were in place.

On Wednesday the Prime Minister's aide Allegra Stratton resigned after leaked footage from No 10’s £2.6 million press briefing room surfaced showing her laughing as she appeared to rehearse answers to questions over a Christmas party held last year when London was under Tier 3 restrictions.

The video, which is reported to be from December 22, refers to a party on “Friday” - which would have been December 18, the same day The Daily Mirror reported there was a staff party where games were played, food and drinks were served, and revelries went on past midnight.

During Wednesday’s Prime Minister’s Questions Boris Johnson apologised ‘unreservedly’ for the offence caused by the footage and ordered an investigation into claims Downing Street staff broke lockdown rules.

The Prime Minister’s intervention followed a week of official insistence that no party took place - despite reports staff drank alcohol and exchanged Secret Santa gifts.
