Aware of the Queen’s interest in the planting of trees, the Inner Wheel Club of Aireborough organised the planting of an oak tree in honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee next year.
The tree was grown from an acorn by a club member and planted by President Anne Brown on November 23. Councillor Graham Latty and members of the club were there on a perfect sunny but chilly autumn day.
A spokesperson said: "The tree is planted with two other oak trees by the top end of the lake on Nunroyd Park. We hope that generations of Aireborough residents will see these trees grow and become useful for all manner of wildlife."
