PEOPLE are being urged to Boo the Bill tonight as part of a campaign to protect the NHS from privatisation.

Campaigners say the Health and Care Bill, which is going before Parliament today and tomorrow, is a "privatisation bill" and is an assault on the NHS.

A protest is being held outside Parliament this evening and people are also being asked to stand outside their homes and Boo the Bill at 7pm tonight.

Writer Dominic Minghella, founder of the #TakeBackBritain campaign, tweeted: "The shocking NHS 'Privatisation' Bill is in Parliament Monday and Tuesday. It makes healthcare a privilege, not a right."

Mr Minghella, who is the creator of ITV's Doc Martin, said:"Nobody voted for this.We clapped our NHS.

"At 7pm on Monday, we stand again at our doors. We 'slow-clap' this sleazy Bill.We make some noise.

We #BooTheBill."

Actor and comedian Stephen Fry is among those opposing the bill, and he tweeted in supported of the Your NHS Needs You campaign.

He said: "Delighted to support this campaign! Pls go to http://yournhsneedsyou.com to take five actions to save our precious NHS!

"Follow @YourNHS2021 & post your own video on what the NHS means to you using #YourNHSNeedsYou Together, we can stop the Health Bill & call for renationalisation!"

The bill is also being opposed by the Unite union.

Earlier this year Jacalyn Williams said:“The Westminster government’s new Health and Care Bill is a Trojan horse for more privatisation, cronyism, austerity and a licence for politicians to run down and sell off the NHS.

"Attempting to drive this through whilst we are still in the middle of a pandemic and without a care for staff and patients is a disgrace, Unite is opposed to this disgraceful bill and we will lead a serious and effective campaign to ensure this bill is stopped.

"We need you all to act now, wherever you work, whichever sector, community, retired, or young members we need you all to get involved and defeat these plans that will give our NHS to profiteers at the expense of staff and all patients.”

The Government says the bill contains "new proposals to build a modern health and care system that delivers better care for our communities."

It says: "The government is committed to delivering world-class care for patients and this Bill will help deliver that by building on the NHS’ own proposals for reform to make it less bureaucratic, more accountable, and more integrated in the wake of COVID-19.

"These changes are vital to help the NHS build back better from the pandemic."
