THERE was some great results by Ilkley Harriers, both locally and further afield in Wales and Scotland.

Steve Turland completed the gruelling 240-mile Montane Dragon’s Back race- a race which goes from Conwy Castle in the north, through the Welsh mountains, to finish at Cardiff Castle in the south, with a total ascent of approx 60,000 ft. Despite the tight cut off times Steve came in 74th position, with a total running time of 82 hours 40 mins, with only 90 of the 400 runners who started the race completing it.

Meanwhile in Scotland, Tom Adams came second in the Salomon Ring of Steall Skyrace, a challenging and technical mountain race in the Mamores, an east-west series of Scottish Munros. The 29 km challenging and technical race route involves summiting four Munros within the series.

In Shropshire, Kate Archer ran in the 23 km South Mynd Tour fell race, an FRA English Championships fell race, with an ascent of 1270 m. Archer was the 9th lady overall and 4th FV40.

On the fells in Yorkshire, Jack Wood and Rachel Carter completed the BOFRA Embsay fell race near Skipton, a 2.5-mile race with 625 feet of climbing. Wood came second overall and Rachel was the third lady to finish.

Great news also for Ilkley Harriers at this week’s parkrun series. Jack Cummings broke the course record at the Myrtle parkrun, his first ever parkrun. He managed to take three seconds off the course record on this tough multi-terrain course, finishing in a super time of 16 mins 31 secs. Mike Abrams-Cohen, a fellow Harrier took second place on the same parkrun. Well done also to Tom Lambe, who was third finisher at the Horton parkrun.
