POOL AFC had a mixed start to their league season following a very positive pre-season.

The first team started with a 6-3 victory at Featherstone Colliery on Saturday, with Scott Higgins continuing his rich vein of form in the friendly matches, netting a hat trick, two from Jamie Algar and a fine opener from Harry Norris completed the scoring.

Meanwhile the young reserve team always expected a tough task when entertaining Horsforth St Margarets "B" on Monday evening, and so it proved as they went down 7-0.

That said, for much of the second half they matched their opponents, until tiring late in the game.

Despite the result, plenty of positives were taken from the match.

The first team had a home match against Wetherby Athletic on Wednesday, then entertain Shelley on Saturday, while the reserves travel to Overthorpe Sports club reserves on Saturday.
