ST Mary’s Menston Catholic Academy is delighted to announce that this year pupils have, once again, achieved outstanding GCSE results and excelled both in their performance and in their commitment to their studies.

Following the government announcement of the cancellation of summer exams, grades were awarded through a process of teacher assessed grades, against a national standard and approved and awarded by the exam boards.

A school spokesperson said: “Staff at St Mary’s have ensured that the government guidance was adhered to and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all staff for their diligence and professionalism in supporting our students onto the next stage of their journey. We would also like to thank all parents and carers for your continued support.

“The government will not be publishing performance for any schools or colleges this year due to the varying impact of the pandemic. Although, we are delighted with the outcomes our pupils have achieved, success is not just measured in terms of academia. Despite the challenges of the last 18 months students have demonstrated strength of character, maturity and a determination to do their best, and be the best they can be. We have also been continually amazed at their achievements outside of the classroom. The netball team are regarded as among the most talented the school has produced and there are also a number of gifted footballers and musicians.”

St Mary’s Head of School, Miss Margaret Hattersley said she was delighted with the achievements of pupils.

She said: “Results day each year is always such a special occasion when we can look at the young people in our care and admire their remarkable character, gifts and talents. This year is like no other due to the way our pupils have had to adapt to new ways of learning and cope with the demands of lockdown and Covid restrictions. All I can say is that their spirit, fortitude and tenacity is incredible and we are so proud of all that they have accomplished due to this. We know they have had an immense amount of support to achieve such outstanding results and so I wish to take this opportunity thank our parents and staff for the patience, wisdom and total faith demonstrated during this time. “The pupils are a credit to themselves, and also a credit to you. Well done Year 11. Step forward with self-belief and be confident in the knowledge that you did it, despite it all.

“We look forward to welcoming the majority of our students into the sixth form in September and for those leaving us we wish them all the very best for the future.”
