ILKLEY Town Council this week agreed to sign a contract worth £112,708 with the company Healthmatic to go ahead with the conversion of the Riverside toilets into four self-contained cubicles, of which two will be disabled access.

Ilkley Town Mayor Mark Stidworthy said: “There is a site visit by Healthmatic this Thursday to move the process along to the construction phase.

“We don’t know when it will start, but the plans include provision of two temporary toilets at the location while work is ongoing.

“We also discussed and resolved to ask the contractors to survey the South Hawksworth Street car park toilets with a view to converting space in there into a fully accessible Changing Places toilet at this location.”

Ilkley Town Council took over responsibility for the toilets in 2019 when Bradford Council was going to close them. The riverside block was in a poor state of repair after years of neglect.
