THE Gallery At The Art Shop in Ilkley is currently showing work by Deborah Dyer, pastel artist and Gillian Gilroy who uses the technique of continuous line drawing.

Deborah began her artistic journey with watercolours; becoming an elected member of the British Watercolour Society in 2003 and exhibiting with them for many years.

Commissions included painting the Leeds, Halifax and Edinburgh head offices of Halifax plc.

However, on retiring in 2012 Deborah took up working with soft pastel, finding their vibrancy ideal to capture her love of colour and texture.

Deborah combines her passions for walking and painting landscapes by using her camera and sketch book whilst walking locally, in the Dales, or Lake District, capturing the ever-changing light on rivers, moors and woodlands.

Gillian trained at Bradford College of Art and Design concentrating on printmaking and painting.

She then became reacquainted with art and in particular drawing when her family were young, and has continued to develop her style using the technique of continuous line drawing.

The seeming simplicity of this method produces completely unique and engaging pictures. Inspiration comes from animals, the built environment and the human figure all expertly captured with a few strokes of the pen.

Gillian has also found this process transfers well to mono printing, which is an area she has been exploring more recently.

The exhibition is running from June 14th to July 24th, Monday to Saturday from 9.30am to -5pm at The Gallery At The Art Shop, Hawksworth Street, Ilkley, LS29 9DU.
