ILKLEY & District u3a celebrated u3a day in style last week with a tea party and two 'Meet the u3a' events in Ilkley and Otley.

At the tea party on u3a day, June 2, members were each invited to bring a friend along to the Clarke Foley Centre in Ilkley for afternoon tea. Almost 100 people filled the main hall over two sittings and the smiling faces said it all. Members were delighted to meet each other after so long and chat with friends over tea and cakes.

At the Buttercross in Otley on Friday, June 4, the newly elected Mayor of Otley, Sylvia Thomson, introduced by bellman, Terry Ford, welcomed the u3a to Otley.

The u3a ambassadors chatted to shoppers in the market to a background of music provided by the u3a’s Tuesday Tappers, who despite having little opportunity to practice together, put on a great show.

Finally on Sunday, June 6 u3a members turned out in force to chat with the public at Ilkley’s Sunday market.

It’s never been easier to join Ilkley & District u3a and open up a new avenue for friendship, shared learning and fun. Aimed at those who are retired and semi-retired, annual membership only costs £13.50 and gives access to over 140 activity groups which meet at venues throughout Wharfedale.
