A CORDON is in place and there is a heavy police presence following reports of a shooting on Mayo Avenue, Bradford, in the early hours of Sunday.

A local resident reported hearing two loud bangs which sounded like gun shots at 1.50am on Sunday.

West Yorkshire Police received a call at around 3am following reports a man had walked into Leeds General Infirmary after sustaining a "shotgun injury" to his back.

A police spokesperson said: "At around 3am this morning we have had a call from accident emergency at Leeds General Infirmary where they believe a patient has walked in with a possible shotgun injury to his back."

Cordons were in place today on Mayo Avenue and near the Shell garage on Rooley Avenue.

A number of police vehicles were still in the area today and a CSI van was parked on nearby Woodleigh Avenue.
