WOODLANDS captain Cieran Garner is "confident" his side can continue their fine start to the season in this weekend's league and cup double-header.

The Bradford-based side face Farsley on Saturday in the Bradford Premier League, before travelling to their league rivals, Townville in the last-16 of the Heavy Woollen Cup on Sunday.

Woodlands, who boast the league and cup double from the 2019 season, will be hoping to retain the titles in this campaign.

A victory on Sunday would see them come up against Yorkshire Premier League North side, Castleford, in the quarter finals.

Before the Heavy Woollen Cup resumes on Sunday, Woodlands will have the opportunity to build on their impressive four game unbeaten league start, by taking on 7th placed Farsley on Saturday.

And captain Garner is very confident his side can gain further momentum. He said: " We are very confident going into the game on Saturday.

"We obviously respect that each team in the league is of a high standard so we won't be taking them for granted, but we fully back ourselves to get the job done."

Garner added: "We've got a set side and we've picked up from where we left-off in 2019. Doing the league and cup double that season, the spirits and togetherness were high within the group and we've just naturally picked up from we left-off. The lads are thriving off the buzz we have at Woodlands at the minute."

Discussing the double-header, Garner admitted his side shouldn't find it too hard too switch their mindset between a league fixture and a cup fixture, especially given their opponents.

He said:"We shouldn't have to change our mindset too much this weekend because we are playing a team from the same division in the cup. I think that with it been Townville, who we recognise as a top side this year , I think it automatically switches us on and ensures we remain focused.

"We know that even from the first game of this season, we can't underestimate them and we know what a tough game it will be."

Garner added: "Although it's the cup, the momentum will give us momentum in the league. We have already got momentum from when we narrowly beat Townville in the first game of the season, and we unbeaten still in the league, so we are going into it on good form."
