BRADFORD Council has defended its temporary pavement extension outside Bettys on The Grove in Ilkley.
It follows complaints by some residents who say they believe Bettys is being treat in “an over generous manner” and that it is “quite inappropriate and unsuitable”.
A Bradford Council spokesperson, said: “We are doing everything we can to support local businesses to recovery strongly after many months of government restrictions. Our temporary pavement extensions allow firms to trade safely by providing additional well ventilated Covid-safe outdoor trading spaces.
“Extensions are only granted to those who agree to operate them responsibly and must first apply for an Outdoor Seating Licence. Bettys attracts many customers to Ilkley and the pavement extension increases the firm’s open air capacity and reduces on-street queuing. Officers have visited the site and we believe it is being used in a safe and Covid-secure manner. The pavement extensions are flexible and can be modified to ensure they remain safe if conditions change. We will monitor the situation and respond if concerns arise.“
