Otley councillors were on site visits this week to identify the best locations for a new batch of Speed Indicator Devices set to be put in place this year.
The programme, which has been delayed because of Covid 19, aims to prioritise the safety of pedestrians and cyclists by encouraging motorists to slow down.
Cllr Richard Hughes said: “SIDs are popular with residents and we have received a number of requests for them to be sited at various locations in the town. From this year’s budget, we can only afford three, so the sites we have looked at this week are on Newall Carr Road, where councillors from Lower Washburn Parish Council have also been involved in discussions, on Leeds Road and on Pool Road. We are hoping we might be able to afford more in the future.”
Cllr Colin Campbell added: “Leeds Highways will not fund the installation of SIDs, so the installation will have to be paid for locally. Leeds have however agreed to erect the SIDs and monitor their effectiveness.”
