A WASHBURN Valley business is in the running to win a top rural award.

Mackenzies Smokehouse, Farm Shop and Café, at Blubberhouses, has been shortlisted in the Best Rural Retail Business category of the 2020/21 Rural Business Awards, which are held in partnership with Amazon.

The smokehouse will now battle it out against fellow rural businesses and entrepreneurs from across the country for the chance to be named a national winner. Mackenzies has been providing the surrounding area with local produce, ranging from its own smoked meats and pates to Sunday roasts, for 20 years.

Co-owner Paul Palmer said: “It feels great to have been shortlisted as a national finalist. I’m extremely proud of the team as well as our wonderful customers who have all played their part in helping us get to where we are.”

An online national final for the awards will be held on February 25, 2021.
