A £2,000 grant has supported Pool-in-Wharfedale’s Christmas lights this year.

The funding has just been approved by the Outer North West Community Committee and will help pay for the hire of six festive motifs.

The total cost was £2,500, with Pool Parish Council providing the £500 balance.

Councillors - and committee members - Barry and Caroline Anderson (both Con, Adel & Wharfedale) said they were delighted to see the village’s display being supported once again.

Cllr Barry Anderson said: “This annual display gets better and better each year and it is such a pleasure to come into the village from whichever direction you are travelling.

“It shows what a warm welcome you get when you come to Pool.”

Cllr Caroline Anderson added: ““Although Pool is a small village it punches above its weight with its Christmas lights display.

“The Parish Council works so hard to show the village to its maximum potential and I think this is a great way of doing it. I think people love to see all the communities putting an effort into their displays; it really brightens up the dark evenings and it is especially welcome this year.”
