FRED Trueman was called upon to open The Yorkshireman in Skipton, 50 years ago in December, 1970.
The Yorkshire and England cricketer and a 'typical Yorkshireman' was decided a very apt choice to carry out the official opening of what the Craven Herald described as 'Skipton's newest and finest bars and restaurant'.
Fiery Fred, pictured here behind the bar with manager, Brian Short, commented at the time that if he owned such fine licensed premises 'he wouldn't let the public in at all', adding: "I'd keep it all to myself" and saying he looked forward to returning.
