SUPERMARKET giant Morrisons – which has a store in Worth Way, Keighley – is stepping-up its support of food banks.

The company is making it easier for customers to donate items needed in their area.

It comes as the Trussell Trust forecasts that over 60 per cent more food parcels will be needed this winter compared to the last one, as people struggle with the economic fallout from the pandemic.

Rebecca Singleton, for Morrisons, said: “We have worked with food banks across the UK to identify the key items that are most needed by the vulnerable in our communities.

“The UK’s food banks are a lifeline for many people and we want to make it easier for customers to donate so that no one is left behind this Christmas.”

Morrisons community champions are introducing signage in stores indicating the items most needed by food banks locally.

Shoppers can also buy special pre-packed bags of groceries, including some Christmas items, that may then be placed in special ‘donation stations’ for collection by food bank volunteers.

Toy donation points have also been provided.

Earlier in the pandemic, Morrisons donated £10m to food banks and it has been running a ‘buy one, donate one’ initiative with McVities Biscuits.
