A NEW website has been launched to help people struggling to access affordable food.

The site directs members of the public and organisations to places across the Bradford district where they can obtain food in times of crisis.

Information is also provided for anyone wanting to offer help, by donating foodstuffs or assisting at a food bank.

Plus the Find Food in Bradford pages include sections on low-cost food markets and free crisis meals for the homeless and how to get help if you are unable to visit a supermarket due to self-isolation.

Behind the initiative is the Feeding Bradford and Keighley food network, which is encouraging other organisations offering support to come forward so their details can be added to the website – bradfordfoodbanks.org.uk.

The network is co-ordinated by Cathy Henwood, of the community development charity Wellsprings Together, who said she was delighted the website was up and running.

“It is the first time that all this information has been made accessible in one place – which will make it so much easier for people who need support,” she said.

“With more and more individuals and families struggling to feed themselves, this essential information needs to be accessible.”

She thanked Inn Churches – which is part of the network – for developing the website and food banks for providing their input.

“It brings us a step closer to Feeding Bradford and Keighley’s vision of ensuring that no one in Bradford district should ever go without food,” she added.

Juli Thompson, chief executive officer of Inn Churches, said: “We are pleased to have developed this new website launched by the Feeding Bradford and Keighley network.

“We have been getting many calls from people who have found themselves in crisis but unsure of where to go for support. In hosting a lot of the food-related projects in one place, we hope that people will be able to access help quickly and easily. The story behind the website is a vast community of people offering hope and dignity to those in crisis.”

Any food banks, low-cost food stalls or groups wishing to provide information about services for inclusion on the website – or wanting to update details already featured – should email cathy.henwood@wellspringstogether.org.uk.
