A NEW network launched by Bradford Council could be music to the ears of people across the district.

The initiative aims to connect everyone involved in music, so they can learn about activities and events.

There will also be the chance to discover more about funding opportunities and other support available.

The Music Network for Bradford has been set-up following consultations with the sector during the summer.

Support for the venture is being provided by Bradford Producing Hub and Music Local.

All those involved in music throughout the district – from musicians and rappers to producers and promoters – are being encouraged to sign-up to receive updates from a range of organisations locally and nationally.

Also, a new steering group is being formed to guide the development of music across the district and to ensure the network represents the diversity of the sector, from grassroots to those having a major impact on the regional and national music scene.

Anyone interested in being a part of the steering group is asked to complete a short submission form, detailing their experience in music and what they would bring to the role.

The project will also see Bradford Producing Hub recruit a so-called music instigator who will liaise between local musicians, the wider sector, local government and national industry bodies.

Music Local led the development process for the network, which saw up to 30 musicians and industry professionals consulted.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s executive member for healthy people and places, said the initiative would play a vital role in helping the music sector recover from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

She said: “The sector has been hit so hard during the pandemic that it’s crucial we try to create some infrastructure and support for it to recover and grow.

“Our commitment to this is supporting the development of the new Music Network for the Bradford district. This open call is so vital in getting a mix of skills and representation to drive forward a network that can help support and grow our rich music industries.”
