AN advice line has been launched for carers across the district.

Behind the initiative is Carers’ Resource, which says the freephone number – 0808 501 5939 – will take people directly through to a local team able to provide information and support.

The charity is backing Carer Rights Day, which encourages family carers to learn more about their entitlements.

Chris Whiley, chief executive of Carers’ Resource, said: “This year’s theme is Know Your Rights.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted every aspect of caring – affecting carers’ access to support and services, and their physical and mental health.

“Many are caring for the first time, whilst those who have been caring for a while are facing greater challenges and pressures than ever before.

“It’s never been more important for carers to be informed and know their rights.

“At Carers’ Resource, we are delighted to be able to launch our advice line and are calling for carers to get in touch.

“We also have a new carer ID card available to all carers who would like one, which could be really helpful in proving where necessary that they have caring responsibilities.

“My message is that we are here to help. If we don’t have the answer to hand, then we will go and find it.”
