HUNDREDS of volunteers from Leeds are taking part in a new coronavirus vaccine trial.
The trial is the world’s first Phase Three study into the safety and effectiveness of the Novavax Covid-19 vaccine.
Many thousands of people in total, from a range of age groups, will take part in the study - with half receiving the vaccine and the other a ‘dummy’ injection.
Some 600 of the thousands of volunteers in Leeds who have signed up to the NHS Vaccine Registry will be involved over the next three weeks - receiving the vaccine in the University of Leeds’ The Edge Sports Hall.
With several more studies for potential vaccines expected to start before the end of the year, UK researchers are calling for additional volunteers to sign up.
