VIRTUAL events are being planned in Ilkley for Remembrance Sunday and the Christmas lights switch on.

Members of Ilkley Town Council agreed to set aside £500 funding for a remembrance video at a meeting last week.

The pre-recorded video will replace the usual parade and will be first broadcast at 3pm on Remembrance Sunday.

It will include an address and readings, as well as the Last Post, the Reveille, and the national anthem. There will be an opportunity at the end for people to go to a book of remembrance.

Members heard it was understood the Royal British Legion was planning to mark Remembrance Sunday.

Ilkley Town Council is also staging a virtual Christmas lights switch on this year.

Cllr Jennifer Souter told the meeting a virtual switch on would be released for viewing at 5pm on November 28. She said the council would also be running a competition inviting people in Ilkley to take photographs or make recordings of their own Christmas lights in their homes. Prizes will be awarded for the best entries which will also be shown on social media.
