A KEIGHLEY councillor has spoken of a community's sadness following the death of a baby girl.

Sixteen-month-old Star Alyssa Hobson was taken to hospital on Tuesday, September 22, following an incident in the Halifax Road area of Keighley.

She was pronounced dead a short time later.

Yesterday, Frankie Smith, 19, of Halifax Road, Keighley, and Savanna Brockhill, 27, of Ashbourne Road, near Bolton Road, Bradford, appeared at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court charged with causing or allowing the death of a child. They were remanded in custody to appear at Bradford Crown Court on October 26.

Keighley Central councillor Abid Hussain, a former Lord Mayor of Bradford, said of the death: "This is serious and sad news.

“The death of such a young girl is a big loss and my condolences go to the family.

“I have deep sympathy for them."

The news was also met with an outpouring of sadness on social media.

Another said: “Heartbreaking, poor little baby girl.”

And one poster wrote: “RIP baby Star. You will be missed by everyone, such a young life.”
