YORKSHIRE’S tourist marketing body has welcomed newly announced business support measures by the Government.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced a raft of new measures on Thursday, September 24 that he hopes will help protect jobs as the country prepares for the impact of further COVID-19 restrictions.
The plan includes an extension to the cut in VAT for some sectors and a commitment to top up the wages of employees who are forced to cut their hours.
Welcome to Yorkshire Chief Executive James Mason believes the measures will go ‘a long way in providing a safety net that will hopefully see many tourism businesses survive the next six months’.
He said: “The Job Support Scheme, with flexible employee support, is a move in the right direction as the country faces further months under restrictions aimed at limiting the spread of COVID-19. We will continue to promote the great outdoors, as well as our many visitor attractions, towns and cities.”
