FLYTIPPING is becoming a constant and deeply problematic issue in Oakworth, says a Keighley town councillor.

Luke Maunsell claims flytipping outlying areas of the village like White Lane, Greystones Lane, and Holme House Lane on the cobbled road to Goose Eye.

Cllr Maunsell, who represents Oakworth, Newsholme and Oldfield, said he had reported 15 cases during the past few months.

He said: "The problem did peak during lockdown as the tips were closed, but now despite minor improvements it's becoming a constant and deeply problematic issue.

"The previous sites are regularly flytipped with anything from garden waste to bulky electricals and household contents. Often, one set of flytipping will be cleared and quickly replaced with another.

"Flytipping is a selfish act with severe consequences. It degrades the area, both environmentally and aesthetically, and is utterly wrong and unnecessary.

"There is simply no reason to flytip beyond sheer laziness and ignorance. The tips are open, Bradford Council can collect larger goods and there are many skip providers around."

Cllr Maunsell said residents of Oakworth and beyond took great pride in their community and frequently expressed disgust at the "shameful" littering.

He added: "I urge anyone with information about flytippers to report it as soon as possible. The more information is provided, the more likely targeted action can be taken to stop this dreadful pollution of our beautiful, rural areas."
